The visionary game developer, renowned for co-creating the wildly popular first-person shooter Call of Duty, has died in a car accident in the state of California he was 55 years old.

His passing was announced by Electronic Arts, which owns Respawn Entertainment, the video game company he co-founded.

The influential industry figure died after his automobile collided and caught fire on a freeway in Los Angeles on this past Sunday, US media outlets report.

"This represents a devastating loss, and our hearts are with Vince's loved ones, his loved ones, and the countless individuals inspired by his creative vision," an official with Electronic Arts stated.
