This Swine Life: Pig Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Mayor.
While perhaps not at the identical stature as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with clear references to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued from the start of the beginning of a new presidential term.
“If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future free from concern.”
The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The pig, contributed by a first responder, was given its name from the modern linguistic fad of young people yelling “six-seven” – deriving from a hip-hop line – often without clear purpose. The craze became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently made “six-seven” its top term for the year.
A New Life
The pardoned swine is now destined to live out its days at a countryside refuge “away from grills and cookware”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“This swine clemency has become a cherished method to begin the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It captures the spirit of Miami: happy, varied, and based in heritage that unite the community. Annually, we are delighted to mark tradition and kindness in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Participants enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
