The Red Devils Set to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her deal, is known as a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee coup for the WSL side.

Departure from Munich has been anticipated since she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading strikers. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Boost the Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a significant uplift to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been highly consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Steam at Old Trafford

Securing the German international coincides with a period when the club appear to be building momentum.

Their recent performances include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having joined from a side from the American league, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
