The former Liverpool manager admits rejoining to coach Liverpool is plausible in theory.
The German coach, who departed from Liverpool in 2024, has suggested that returning someday remains a possibility. Klopp, after a transformative near-decade reign that included a European Cup triumph and the Premier League crown in 30 years, now holds positions in a global football capacity for Red Bull and in an advisory capacity for the DFL.
Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
Liverpool won the Premier League under Arne Slot, yet numerous supporters who adore the manager would embrace the notion of his potential comeback. In a wide-ranging interview, he told Steven Bartlett: “I stated I won't manage any other side in England. So that means if then it’s Liverpool...yes. In theory, it could happen.”
“Being 58, so I could make the decision down the line, I don’t know. Must I choose now? In that case, I'd stay away. Luckily, it's not necessary. I'll wait and observe what the future brings.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
Questioned regarding what circumstances would need to occur to draw him back to the touchline, Klopp admitted he feels no immediate pull toward coming back. “I'm not entirely sure, I enjoy my current role,” he said. “I don’t miss coaching; I avoid standing under bad weather through long matches; No need for press conferences four times, three times a week or having 10-12 interviews a week.
“I don’t miss the dressing room per se, but sitting in a restaurant with the team having a nice chat, that’s nice. We won a lot of games so there was often great spirits around the place. I still have Van Dijk's laughter in my ear for example.”
Commending Arne Slot
He commended of the current boss, crediting him for the tweaks that won the league last campaign. Liverpool have lost a string of losses across various tournaments following significant transfers, though he denied the idea that it might signal a decline.
“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward such as Wirtz, critics will regret with negative comments. An outstanding player. Ekitike, superb talent. It’s a really good well-judged squad. You don’t have to worry over the club, they'll bounce back.”
Heartfelt Words for Diogo Jota
He shared movingly on the loss of Diogo Jota, a player he signed in 2020, along with the consequences for the team. The Portugal international died tragically in a car crash with his brother recently.
“How do you replace a person like him? This isn't just regarding his on-field talent, it's his character. I struggle to conceive the team environment missing him. Putting it into words is tough regarding this. It was an incredible shock for his teammates too. Nobody at Liverpool might employ it for poor performances though it's a fact. Entering the changing area where his spirit remains. Coping with it on a personal level is not easy. Impossible.”
