That Gory Animated Movie Conclusion That Lingers Fans
Out of all the mature animated films I’ve ever watched, no other has stuck with me as much as the terror-laced conclusion of the viscerally violent as well as highly provocative film from 2022 The Unicorn Wars.
In 2015’s, this Spanish filmmaker created a dark, somber and frequently brutal universe that included a few small , desolate hints of hope.
Although Unicorn Wars seems like it stemmed from an impulse to expand animation even more, the filmmaker clarified that it was more a try to convey a universal, cross-cultural message about “the common origin of all wars.”
That message is expressed by means of a group of colorful pastel bears , obviously inspired by a famous series of cuddly characters.
Growing up in a culture focused on militarism as well as the military-industrial complex, many of the bears are consumed by exterminating unicorns, because of a holy book which states them they previously were kings of the woods, before the horned beings forced them out.
A few did not entirely bought into the propaganda, , would rather try out substances and engage sexually outdoors.
In contrast to their friendly counterparts, these bright beings show genitals , definite sex drives.
For a particular notably brutal, cynical bear, the bear named Bluey, the war against the unicorns turns into a route to power — and particularly to dominance over his gentler, nicer brother the bear Tubby.
This bear behaves aggressively , an obvious sociopath , and when fear dominates his squad and takes his teammates individually, he grabs progressively power for himself, in increasingly bloody, destructive ways.
Meanwhile, the unicorns are suffering their own terror, through a growing, deadly beast in their habitat.
“Initially, it feels like a comedy,” the director said. “But then it turns into a more serious and sad movie. And by the end, it transforms into a scary feature.”
Unicorn Wars begins resembling among the quirky features by a legendary filmmaker, that discover a wicked pleasure in letting drawn beings swear, shoot each other, or engage sexually.
Subsequently it evolves into something more like a darker movie by that same director, including ever more graphic violence , a palpable connection to the actual suffering of war.
Ultimately, it’s a full-on extreme drama bloodbath.
The fear which makes the film a Halloween-friendly viewing starts well before than that description suggests.
The Unicorn Wars is one for the most dedicated lovers of violence, for lovers of intense movies who desire to watch something they’ve never viewed until now, and can endure a narrative that offers unflinching brutality.
See it in a dark room free from interruptions, and that ending will dig into your mind and linger.
