President Trump Invites Relatives of Shot Guard Members to White House
President Trump announced on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the loved ones of a Guard member fatally shot last week to attend the presidential home.
He noted that he contacted her family and they were “devastated”.
Background on the Tragic Event
Specialist Beckstrom, twenty years old, was killed in a attack on Wednesday in DC.
Her comrade, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in grave state.
Memorials across the state have occurred in their remembrance.
White House Invitation
The president stated he’s talked about a meeting at the presidential residence for the loved ones of both members of the West Virginia Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a difficult moment, come to the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to Sarah,” the president addressed the press. “And in the same way with Andrew, whether he recovers or not.”
Community Response
Attendees came together over the weekend at a local school in the state to remember Sarah.
Both the soldiers had been fulfilling duties with the state guard as part of the president’s national effort to support policing efforts in DC.
Paying Tribute to the Soldier
“Sarah was the individual that instructors hoped for. She carried herself with inner fortitude, a contagious smile and a positive energy that lifted those around her,” the principal, the principal of Beckstrom’s previous school, stated to the Associated Press. “She was sweet, compassionate and always willing to support those in need.”
Service plans for Beckstrom are in the process of planning.
Legal Measures and Government Adjustments
Law enforcement have charged a 29-year-old suspect with one count of homicide and charges of violent assault while armed.
The event led the Trump administration to halt refugee claims and cease issuing entry permits to owners of Afghan passports.
Condition of Andrew Wolfe
Andrew Wolfe, a resident of the city, started his military career in 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman high school, according to the AP.
He is still undergoing care and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s leader Patrick Morrisey said on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi told Fox News Sunday that she aimed to meet with the family.
Legacy of Sarah Beckstrom
Sarah, from her hometown, graduated from Webster County high school in 2023 and began her service not long after, serving as a military police officer with distinction, per the state guard.
“She had a lot of kindness and she certainly had fortitude,” he informed the gathering at the service. “Though her life was cut short, she has made an impact that’s going to be remembered always.”
