One extended voyage through the Land Down Under is being halted days after the tragic passing of an senior female passenger who was left behind by the vessel on a remote island.

The elderly woman had been walking on the tropical location with shipmates from the cruise ship, but parted ways from the excursion for a rest. The ship left without her and returned later that day after the personnel realised the woman was not present.

A large-scale rescue mission discovered her person the next day.

Officials are investigating the incident, alongside investigators and the medical examiner.

Chief Executive of the cruise operator announced that guests and crew on the Coral Adventurer were informed that the rest of the cruise had been terminated due to the "tragic passing and prior technical problems".

Via official communication, he further stated that guests would be provided a total repayment, and said the operator was working "to coordinate the travel back of the travelers via chartered flights".

Regulatory bodies also issued an updated communication, and said they had "provided a notice to the Commander" preventing any new passengers from getting on the vessel.

The representative said that they would visit the liner in Cairns upon its return.

Sequence of Events

The vessel first departed the coastal city on 24 October, and was just two days into the expedition at the time of the 80-year-old's passing. The remote island was the first stop on the journey.

Travelers on board - who usually pay tens of thousands of currency to participate in the cruise - were transported there for a day trip with the choice of hiking or underwater exploration.

Family Response

The daughter of the elderly passenger said that her relatives was "shocked and grieved that the liner left the island after an organised tour without my mum".

In her statement, she portrayed her mum as an "vigorous elderly person" who was a affiliate of a walking group.

"Based on limited facts we have been told, it appears that there was a lapse of responsibility and common sense," she said.

She added that she hoped the investigation would be able to identify what "the company should have done that might have protected Mum's existence".

"Based on information from the police that it was a very hot day, and mother took sick on the hill climb," she revealed.

"She was asked her to head down, without accompaniment. Then the boat left, reportedly without doing a passenger count.

"During some point in that chain of events, or shortly after, mother died, without company."

Operator Position

Through an announcement, the Chief Executive confirmed that the organization was "cooperating fully with officials to assist their inquiry".

He stated that the organization was "very regretful that this has transpired" and had provided its total backing to the family.

Shipping Sector Standards

The liner caters for up to one hundred twenty travelers with forty-six staff, according to company information. It was purpose-built to access distant locations of the nation's coast and is equipped with "tenders" - small boats used to transport passengers on day excursions.

Incidents such as this are infrequent, and cruise ships have systems to document which passengers are embarking or leaving, according to travel authorities.

"Going ashore secretly or [back] onboard simply isn't an option," an authority remarked.
