Adult Swim's Premier Fresh Series of This Year Secures a Substantial Extension for Two More Seasons.

Last October, the late-night programming block debuted a new season of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. However, later that same month, the channel unveiled a brand-new animated series with a markedly softer vibe. Haha, You Clowns was heartwarming and calm, evoking a animated take of a serene talk show. At a time often characterized by cynicism, this show's earnestness resonated deeply and turned it into a breakout hit.

A Major Commitment

On December 18th, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for a further two seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to develop the world of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three respectful teenage brothers whose central trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four key characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the fans of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and spread the word," remarked Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for a little longer."

Executive Acclaim

In the same announcement praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He specifically highlighted the fans who found the show and supported its distinctly quirky sensibility.

"All of you showed up for this new show, praised it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a wholesome alternative" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something surprisingly comfy about watching this endearing family go about their daily lives.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa shared his hope to evolve comedy past its long-running sarcastic tone. He linked this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“There's this level of irony that we keep returning to,” noted Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we just have to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”

What Comes Next

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa may well be part of that very evolution. Or at the very least, the renewal promises audiences additional episodes to bask in the gentle humor of the endearing Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The complete first season is currently streaming on HBO Max.
